Coming in at #6 is the Aladino Maduro Corona by JRE Tobacco Company. When Julio R. Eiroa and his son Justo launched JRE Tobacco Company, it didn’t take long from the Aladino line to become both its premium and work-horse blend. Therefore it was no surprise in 2018 when JRE introduced a maduro offering under the Aladino brand. In 2019, the first line extension came to the Aladino Maduro line in the form of a corona size – and it’s that recent addition that lands Aladino back on the Countdown.
The Aladino Maduro line features a San Andres Maduro wrapper from Mexico over Honduran binder and filler sourced from the JRE Tobacco farm in the Jamastran Valley. The Corona size is 44 x 5 and consistent with most of Aladino Maduro offerings, it’s box-pressed. Production is handled at Julio R. Eiroa’s Las Lomas factory.
With the Aladino Maduro Corona, JRE Tobacco lands on the Countdown for the fourth consecutive year. It’s the third time the Aladino brand has landed on the Countdown, which includes a #2 Cigar of the Year in 2016 with the Aladino Elegante, and 2018’s #1 Cigar of the Year with the Aladino Corojo Reserva Robusto.
Flavorwise, the Aladino Maduro Corona delivers a mix of cocoa, coffee, earth, cedar, wood, black pepper, and “maduro sweetness” (natural tobacco and dried fruit). The flavors delivered are medium-bodied countered by medium strength.
The Aladino Maduro really shines in the 44 x 5 box-pressed corona format. The flavors delivered are excellent, and there is a nice amount of complexity with this cigar. In the end, its another excellent offering and worthy of a slot on the 2019 Countdown.
